Dr. Terry Spain, the CEO of Terry Spain Consulting, LLC, is a highly experienced professional in the fields of diversity, leadership training, motivational speaking, and team building. In addition to his extensive background, he is also known for his expertise as a professional sports commentator. With a distinguished 21-year career in the US Navy, Dr. Spain retired as an Instructor for the Senior Leadership Development Branch at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) in Patrick AFB, Florida. Throughout his tenure, he made significant contributions to the development of senior leaders and shared invaluable knowledge on diversity and equal opportunity.
Dr. Spain's exceptional skills have attracted attention from esteemed institutions such as the federal government, the White House, Camp David, and the Naval Academy, where he has conducted training sessions and provided insights on leadership, diversity, and team dynamics. His profound understanding of these subjects, combined with his engaging and motivational speaking style, has earned him great respect in the field. Through his consulting firm, Terry Spain Consulting, LLC, Dr. Spain continues to assist organizations in enhancing their diversity, leadership, and teamwork capabilities.
During his time at DEOMI, Terry acquired a wide range of credentials, including Organizational Management, Department of Defense Certified Mediator, Diversity Trainer, Command Climate Specialist, and Certified Facilitator Evaluator/Trainer.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Spain is an active and respected member of the Central Brevard Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Florida, where he serves as the Veterans Committee Chairman. In recognition of his remarkable contributions to civil rights within the armed services and civilian workforce, Terry was honored with the prestigious Roy Wilkins Renown Service Award from the NAACP in 2014.
Furthermore, Dr. Spain has demonstrated his commitment to mentoring and empowering young individuals. He designed a life skills course at the Brevard County Juvenile Detention Center, where he serves as a mentor to teenagers, providing guidance in conflict management, financial literacy, and grooming. Additionally, he actively contributes as a Board member for the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to supporting veterans and their families.
Driven by his passion for leadership and mentorship, Terry authored two books, "Hey Young Man!" and "Just Lead," aiming to inspire and guide others. He also pioneered the "Kenyan Young Men Empowerment Summit" in Eldoret, Kenya, an inaugural event that aimed to equip approximately two hundred young men with essential life skills, including grooming standards, leadership development, confidence building, and teamwork. In recognition of his unwavering commitment and efforts to uplift communities globally, Dr. Spain was honored with The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Awards in 2023.
Academically, Dr. Spain holds an honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Entrepreneurship and Business Administration from TIUA School of Business, a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership with a Concentration in Civic Engagement from Claremont Lincoln University, and a Bachelor's degree from Thomas Edison State University.
He is married to his wife Robin and together they have 1 child.
