About Terry
Dr. Terry Spain is the Chief Executive Officer of Terry Spain Consulting, LLC, specializing in diversity and leadership training, motivational speaking, mentoring, and team building. With a distinguished 21-year career in the US Navy, Terry served as an Instructor for the Senior Leadership Development Branch at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) in Patrick AFB, Florida, before retiring.
During Terry's tenure at DEOMI, he amassed a host of credentials including Organizational Management, Department of Defense Certified Mediator, Diversity Trainer, Command Climate Specialist, and Certified Facilitator Evaluator/Trainer. Dr. Spain's exceptional skills have attracted the attention of esteemed institutions such as the federal government, the White House, Camp David, and the Naval Academy, where he has conducted training sessions and provided insights on leadership, diversity, and team dynamics.
Terry's commitment to civil rights earned him The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Roy Wilkins Renown Service Award in 2014 for outstanding accomplishments in the armed services and civilian workforce.
A dedicated pillar in the community, Terry serves as the Veterans Committee Chairman for the NAACP Central Brevard Branch in Florida and is a Board member for the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation, supporting veterans and their families.
Driven by a passion for leadership and mentorship, Terry authored two impactful books, "Hey Young Man!" and "Just Lead," and created the groundbreaking "Kenyan Young Men Mentorship Summit" in Eldoret, Kenya. The summit equipped approximately two hundred young men with essential life skills for grooming standards, leadership development, confidence building, and teamwork.
In recognition of his hard work and dedication to worldwide communities, Terry was honored with The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Awards in 2023. Dr. Spain holds an honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Entrepreneurship and Business Administration from TIUA School of Business, a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership with a Concentration in Civic Engagement from Claremont Lincoln University, and a Bachelor's degree from Thomas Edison State University.
Beyond his illustrious military and consulting career, Terry is also a highly experienced sports commentator, providing expert coverage of various professional sports leagues including the NBA, NFL, NCAA, and other elite athletic competitions. With a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of each sport's intricacies, Terry has earned a reputation for delivering insightful commentary that enhances the viewing experience for audiences worldwide.
In addition to his role as a sports commentator, Terry is deeply committed to mentoring athletes to help them reach their full potential both on and off the field, fostering a culture of excellence and personal growth.
He is married to his spouse and together they have 1 child.
